Have You Reached a Plateau?

Here’s a question for you: Have you reached a plateau?

Often when you hear about someone hitting a plateau, it’s related to weightloss, when a person has been working out and losing weight for awhile.  Then suddenly they hit a plateau.  It’s a  period where they just stay in the same place, and no matter how hard they try, they just can’t seem to make any progress, right?

‘Hitting a plateau’.  Usually that is a physical thing, like not losing weight. But it doesn’t have to be, does it?  Think about applying that concept to other areas. It recently occurred to me that I’ve been stuck on a mental plateau, where I just couldn’t seem to mentally get past the same stuck place.  For me it was related to my healthy lifestyle change, and I just wasn’t  able to focus and enjoy it the last couple of weeks.  I was stuck on a plateau where no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t make myself care.  I’m still not sure if it was some kind of burnout, or some kind of side effect from being sick with sinus infection, or just being overwhelmed by the general upswing in energy/activities now that that the weather is nice.  But I was definitely on a big mental plateau, struggling to find my way off of it.

I spent some time thinking about it, encouraging some other friends on their own plateaus, and I’ve managed to find my way off of that plateau.  I’m back into it both mentally and physically.  But, that makes me wonder: Are there other areas of life, or certain times, when we hit plateaus in other ways too?  Is it just part of the natural rhythm of life?  Something to think about.

Have YOU hit a plateau?

What do you do to work through it?

I know exactly what you mean! I’m trying to work past that plateau myself. But I’m getting there. Thanks for the encouragement! And blessings to you in your weight loss journey!

plateaus stink. I seem to live at one while breastfeeding.

Stopping over from Thought Provoking Thursdays. I think plateaus are a natural part of life, for sure — it’s the making sure we move out of them that’s sometimes the hardest part. For me, with weight loss, I’ve found that I plateau when I restrict calories for too long, so I use the Curves Weight Management Program to avoid weight plateaus. It’s the spiritual ones, especially now, that I get all hung up on sometimes. No easy formula to calculate out of those!
I see you’re going to Relevant, too! Hope to meet you there. 🙂

Oh your words!! I am here in a plateau. I need a plan and lots of prayer. Maybe this Weight Loss Wednesday is the answer to my needing inspiration. This post has been just that, inspiring!

I think the prayer part is the key. And it’s the part that I have been totally missing all along. Not sure WHY I never realized that I didn’t have to do it alone, but I didn’t. Asking Him for help has been an amazing difference for me. Praying for you to find your plan and be successful too! Good luck!
