Here’s a question for you: Have you reached a plateau?
Often when you hear about someone hitting a plateau, it’s related to weightloss, when a person has been working out and losing weight for awhile. Then suddenly they hit a plateau. It’s a period where they just stay in the same place, and no matter how hard they try, they just can’t seem to make any progress, right?
‘Hitting a plateau’. Usually that is a physical thing, like not losing weight. But it doesn’t have to be, does it? Think about applying that concept to other areas. It recently occurred to me that I’ve been stuck on a mental plateau, where I just couldn’t seem to mentally get past the same stuck place. For me it was related to my healthy lifestyle change, and I just wasn’t able to focus and enjoy it the last couple of weeks. I was stuck on a plateau where no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t make myself care. I’m still not sure if it was some kind of burnout, or some kind of side effect from being sick with sinus infection, or just being overwhelmed by the general upswing in energy/activities now that that the weather is nice. But I was definitely on a big mental plateau, struggling to find my way off of it.
I spent some time thinking about it, encouraging some other friends on their own plateaus, and I’ve managed to find my way off of that plateau. I’m back into it both mentally and physically. But, that makes me wonder: Are there other areas of life, or certain times, when we hit plateaus in other ways too? Is it just part of the natural rhythm of life? Something to think about.
Have YOU hit a plateau?
What do you do to work through it?
