Have you ever thought about the roadblocks that YOU put up in your own life? I’m talking about the reasons & excuses we put in front of ourselves to limit what we can do? These kind of roadblocks look different for everyone, because they are something we do to ourselves. However, I’m pretty sure they all speak the same language. Roadblocks say:
I can’t _______.
I don’t _______.
I’m not ______ enough.
I’m too ________.
I’ve come to realize that my roadblocks pop up when there is something I feel called to do, but I don’t fit MY OWN image of the “kind of person” who would fill that role. I think to myself: ‘I want to _____ but…. I don’t know anyone….but I’m not outgoing enough…. but I’m too quiet…. but I’ve never done something like that before……’ The roadblocks and excuses can be endless if I let them.
The solution? Don’t let them. That sounds too simple, but it’s the bottom line. Don’t let the roadblocks and excuses be endless. Don’t let them stop you! Instead of counting the ways you don’t live up to the image in your head, count your strengths, and use them to overcome that image in your head. Find a way to use your strengths to go for what you’re being called to do. It might not look like you think it ‘should’. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. We don’t have to all have the same strengths. In fact, it’s better if we don’t! Shut down the*I can’ts*, the *I don’ts*, and the *I’m not _____ enoughs* with:
Show a little love for yourself and your abilities, for the gifts that God has given you. Your strengths, your Gifts, were given uniquely to you….for a purpose. God has a plan, a vision, and a purpose for your life. So if you’re feeling called to do something, find a way to use your strengths to give yourself courage. Courage to blow past those roadblocks you’ve set up, and discover the open road of possibilities ahead.
Before you know it, you might just see those roadblocks vanishing into thin air. 😉
Something to truly think about….
If you feel like sharing, I’d love to hear about roadblocks you’ve overcome, or even ones you are struggling with right now. Leave a comment and let me encourage you!
