Thinking Out Loud

Last week, over here, I wrote:

It’s easy to be accountable for our actions when we’re doing something for someone else.  Not so easy when it comes to doing it for ourselves and our health.

Why is that?

Why is it so easy to push ourselves down to the bottom of the priority list?

I’m still thinking about that.  I’m in a good mood, on the right track…but I’m still wondering, WHY do I let myself fall to the bottom of the list?  It happens all the time, and in many different ways. Do you know the story of the mayonnaise jar and the two cups of coffee?  If not, take a minute and go read it.  It’s a good lesson.   In fact, I like it so much that I have “the rest is just sand”  up on my office bulletin board.  But even so, I sometimes still forget (or choose not) to put my health and my needs in the jar first with the important stuff.   Sometimes I treat the things I need like sand…like the small stuff that just gets ‘fit in’ wherever there is a little extra room.  That question of ‘Why is it so easy to put myself last?’ has been sort of rolling around in my head all week.  It lead me to realize that while the “WHY” is important, what I really need is to figure out the “HOW”.  So, I’m making a list of all the ways I push myself to the bottom of the list, and also a list of ways I make myself a priority.  On the off chance that you struggle with the same thing….  I made a cute printable to work through.  Digging deep into why you’re a little messed up is always easier with a cute printable, right?  Right. :)

You know the saying, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy”?  I’m a much better wife and mother when I take the time I need to eat right, and exercise and have some time to take a break and get refreshed.  This week, I’ll still

Eat Clean

Move More

Refresh Daily

but my focus is going to be on why doing those things for me is actually important.

My needs.

Important.

Imagine that.

I have a feeling it’s going to be a tough week.

In case you’re dying to know… This week has been a great week.  I’ve lost a little, eaten really well, cut out some more bad foods (sugar) and did a ton of yoga.  Actually, I completed the 25 classes in 30 days just last night… with a harder class that was really out of my comfort zone.  And it was good!  Really good.  I’m even going back next week without the challenge!

I had never heard of that story, but I am so glad you shared it! Love it! I find myself needing such a reminder very often. Just when I think I’ve figured out how to balance everything, I find out I wasn’t balancing at all, but juggling. It gets overwhelming. Thanks for the awesome printable, too. I’m going to print this out for myself.

Thanks, Hope! I have same balancing vs. juggling thing going on…it’s a constant struggle to try and get it worked out. You are not alone!

Girl, are there any LIMITS to your creativity with a blank piece of paper???
You are awesome!!

And wow-
These are really important things to think about.

My pride is saying – NO. I’ve got this. I don’t need to fill out that paper. . .
But my heart is saying, um, whispering, actually — do it. Prayerfully.
Take the time. Analyze.
Invest.

So off I go, to print your adorable printable.

Oh, trust me, my pride is saying the exact same thing. If fact, I was just thinking this morning, ‘Oh shoot…now why’d I go and post that. Now I have to do it myself!’ LOL. We’re all in it together.

And thanks for the sweet compliments on the printable! Glad you like it.
