Sometimes when I’m tired, I hear a voice in my head. And you might think I’m a little strange because it’s not my voice, it’s Lucille Ball’s. But, sometimes, what pops into my head is her saying, “Are you tired? Rundown? Listless? Do you poop out at parties?….” You know? That funny episode where she was doing the TV ad for a ‘health drink’ that was really just alcohol?
Anyway, the pretend commercial on I Love Lucy isn’t the point. The point is that sometimes I feel hopelessly tired. Like I’m always ‘pooping out’ at parties… So I’m not going to overwhelm myself with a huge list of massively impossible things to accomplish this year. Instead, I’m making my theme for 2011 be to just do the next thing. Whatever it may be. Laundry. De-cluttering. Paperwork. Organizing. Dishes. A workout… Just Do The Next Thing… and try to keep going that way. I’m also going to make small, measurable, achievable goals with the gals over at the 3 in 30 challenge, and and work on three small goals for 30 days at a time to hopefully accomplish bigger results. And if I fail at one of them, I’m going to just keep picking it up again and starting over until the goal is reality.
That’s my plan and I’m sticking to it…
What’s your plan for 2011?

I know that candle! It’s a good picture of it too!
Aw, thanks! That’s a wonderful comment…. You made me smile.
Hi Michelle,
I am stopping by from the 3in30 linkup. Good luck with your goals this month, I like your idea of working on one BIG task for 30 minutes each day, I may borrow it next month! :O)
Glad to have you here! I have to say, the big task in 30 minutes a day is the one I’m finding the hardest… But it’s also very satisfying, and once I start the timer, the 30 minutes usually just FLY by… Good luck with yours next month!
Hey, I am stopping by from 3in30 link-up. Your goals look good. I just found out about this today and want to start. I was thinking, have my kitchen clean when I go to bed. Great minds…….
Welcome! When I decided on the kitchen goal, I rephrased it to ‘wake up’ to a clean kitchen…. Somehow that tricks me into thinking it’s a treat rather than a chore before bed! Good luck with yours…
Hey Michelle! Stopping in from 3/30 linkup!
Mom always called it putting her house to bed. Now 30 years and 4 grown children later I am still doing it. I did slack up there for a bit and thanks to Flylady I have a clean sink every night and it bleeds on through to the rest of the kitchen.
Wonder if I need to put a sink in all of the rooms LOL. I still have trouble with putting the rest of the house to bed some days.

I’m visiting via 3in30. I sooooo get your clean kitchen. It’s something that I’ve been trying to work on for months. Maybe I should add that to the goal list sometime this year.
Michelle, I’ve been working on it forever too, but never got anywhere until I started thinking about waking up to a clean kitchen. It just starts your whole day off better. And the day or two that I’ve missed, I am so disappointed in the morning!
I love your outlook on it…I try to do the same! Great goals too!
Kara, thanks! Attitude makes a huge difference, doesn’t it?
I am enjoying reading the goals that everyone has set for themselves this month. I LOVE waking up to a clean kitchen!!
Thanks for taking time to comment, Becky! Isn’t it fun having company with your goals?
I’m here from 3 in 30.
I love your goals. I might adopt some of them myself. The clean kitchen in the morning is such a lovely thing to wake up to, isn’t it?
Great goals! Those extra piles of stuff just seem to sneak up on you, don’t they? Well, at least they seem to around here. A clean kitchen in the morning is very nice, and something that we still are working on around here. Maybe a goal for next month? We’ll see.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Stopping in from 3in 30 link up.
Great goals… i too have a goal for keeping the kitchen clean! )
Keep up the good work,
Hi! Stopping by from 3 in 30 .. I want to wake up to a clean kitchen, too! One of my 3 is getting all the dishes done before bed (which also includes/implies wiping down the sink and counters.) It’s such a wonderful feeling to start the day with a clean kitchen. =)
Good luck!
Stopping by via the 3 in 30.
Ugh, a dirty kitchen.. I know how you feel. I hate waking up to dishes in the sink. My hubby helps me out with that most of the time, but when we both forget.. yuck.. don’t know what it is.. but it’s just one of those pet peeves.
Praying you reach your 3 in 30 this month!
Now I have that scene from I Love Lucy playing through my head. Such a great episode. You have wonderful goals set up for the month of January. The other thing I noticed is that you have a great attitude about it. If you don’t get to one right now, you’ll just keep working at it. I love that mentality and it is something I need to work towards.
Have a wonderful weekend!
(another 3 in 30 visitor)
What great goals – simple, yet they will definitely affect your daily life! We’re so glad to have you on board with the 3 in 30 Challenge!!
Hi there, just stopping in via 3 in 30. Loved reading your post and finding that we have the 1000 gifts in common too I love reading Holy Experience. Good luck on your January goals.
Joining you the 3 in 30 challenge…I’m going to adopt your kitchen goal next month….it’s difficult to only choose 3 but even more difficult to remember more than 3 as the month goes on..I wish you the best on all 3 and i’ll keep you on my prayer list to conquer them! Have a good weekend!

LOVE the idea of just doing the next thing! And I can’t begin to tell you what a difference “little by little makes progress” and “Goodbye Junk” has made in my life… now I’ll add another Michelle-ism to make my life better! Thanks!
You know that “just do the next thing” part is Ann Voskamp, right? I know you hate to read, but you’ve really got to try the 1000 Gifts book. It is changing me.
