What’s Your Superpower?

I used to think that superpowers were only for comic books and movie heroes.

You know, like having ‘spidey-sense’, or being able ‘to leap tall buildings in a single bound’?

I’ve come to realize that superpowers aren’t just for fictional characters. Real life people have them too. Wanna know the secret to finding your superpower? Are you ready?

Dun-dun-Daaaaaa! (insert cheesy superpower sound effects here)

The secret of finding/knowing/using your superpower is figuring out what is your strength. What is your gift?  Seriously, that’s it. That thing that you do really well, but probably take for granted? That’s probably your superpower. When you focus on using your strengths, and stop trying to fit yourself into some other area that doesn’t work for you? That’s when you turn that gift into a superpower.  Stop wasting energy on trying to be something you’re not, and instead focus that energy on what you do well:

Maybe you’re a friendly extrovert with a talent for making everyone feel welcome….

… or maybe you’re good at organizing behind the scenes details.

Maybe you’re party planner with a knack for hospitality and pulling together fun social activities…

…or maybe you’re the quiet one who is a great listener when someone needs to talk.

Maybe you’re the booming voice that can grab everyone’s attention and lead people in the right direction…

…or maybe you’re the calm soul in the midst of the chaos, reminding people to breathe and find joy.

Maybe you’re the one with the infectious laugh…

… Or the shy smile.

Maybe you give bear hugs…

…or secret little waves across the room.

Maybe you’re the problem solver…

…or the creative, artistic one.

Maybe you’re musically gifted….

…or you create culinary masterpieces.

What is your superpower?

No one has all these gifts.

Let me say that again, because I want to make sure you get it:

No one has all these gifts. No one.

Don’t pick out the talents you don’t have and focus on the negative. Pick out the gifts that fit you… And rock the house with your talents. Focus fully on what you’re good at, whatever it may be. Don’t worry about the rest. Someone else has those gifts. Let them handle that area, while you knock it out of the park in yours. Set yourself (and your superpower) free… And go do some good in the world!

So, what IS your superpower?

I’d love for you to tell us in the comments!

This post reinforces what Courtney, Amy, and Ann talked about in Upside Down Blogging…stop the comparisons! So many years have been wasted by me as I compared my singing voice, my leadership ability, my friend list, and so much more to others’. I may be learning that God has built me for ME. Not to look like someone else.

Thanks for the reminder, Michelle!

Loved your post today! You’re right: everyone has a superpower, but NO ONE has them all. Thanks for the reminder!

P.S. I think my superpower is choosing cool friends. *wink*

I love this statement:

Stop wasting energy on trying to be something you’re not, and instead focus that energy on what you do well…

What do I do well? Humm… Encourage, plan, host, write…

Never considered them “superpowers”. I like that thought :)

Thank you for this reminder, today! I always need to remember not to try to have all strengths at one time! It’s impossible and too much for one person to bear…Thank you for you!

Great thoughts!! I’ve been thinking about this stuff lately. I think I am too afraid to really admit my strengths and allow God to use them for his glory.
